Our Story

Buikwe Foundation was established in 2018 in response to the alarming rates of school dropouts among girls in Buikwe District, Uganda. Our founder, Sarah Nakato, witnessed firsthand how poverty, cultural practices, and lack of opportunities were forcing young girls out of school and into early marriages.

What began as a small community initiative to keep just a handful of girls in school has grown into a comprehensive program that has impacted hundreds of girls and their communities. We've expanded from simply paying school fees to providing vocational training, mentorship, and community awareness programs.

Today, we operate from our dedicated center in Buikwe Town, where we provide safe spaces for learning, skill development, and personal growth. Our holistic approach addresses not just education, but the underlying socioeconomic factors that contribute to the challenges facing girls in our community.

  • Empowerment: We equip girls with life skills, financial literacy, and confidence to make informed decisions about their lives.
  • Advocacy: We advocate for policies and practices that protect and promote girls' rights to education and equal opportunities.
  • Community Engagement: We work with parents, community leaders, and local government to create an enabling environment for girls to thrive.
